Hydro-Sonic Scrubbers

Hydro-Sonic Systems provides high efficiency wet scrubbers for all types of processes. We customize each installation for your specific needs. Our scrubbers exceed the performance of other scrubbers by incorporating aerospace technology.

Overview

Hydro-Sonic Scrubbers were first developed for a steel mill process that had a very heavy load of sub-micron particles. A team of aerospace engineers relied on their advanced knowledge and background to perfect the mixing principles used in the process.

Hydro-Sonic Scrubbers employ a nozzle, water jets, and a mixing chamber that use turbulent mixing to capture particulates in the water. The Super-Sub and Steam-Hydro create shock waves to enhance mixing and further improve efficiency for sub-micron particles. After the mixed stream exits the mixing area, agglomerated particles are spun through cyclone separators or vane separators to remove the water and entrained particulates from the gas. Clean gas is then vented to atmosphere. The exhausted clean gas will be saturated with water and produces a short water vapor plume.

Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle Scrubber

The most economical scrubber in terms of capital and operating costs is the Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle Scrubber. This scrubber design works for most industrial needs. The Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle Scrubber is a pressure-drop driven scrubber with a unique design that yields significantly better performance than typical pressure-drop driven scrubbers. The Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle Scrubber is the scrubber of choice where good efficiency is needed on low to medium scrubbing difficulty processes at a low capital cost.

In the basic configuration it has fixed throat nozzles, and is good for steady state processes. Where turndown is required variable throat nozzles, a Super-Sub ejector assembly, or a gas recirculation loop may be used to maintain high efficiency.

Hydro-Sonic Super-Sub

The Hydro-Sonic Super-Sub assembly is a small assembly that may be added to either the Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle or Tandem Nozzle scrubber to provide more scrubbing power. This unit provides the best of both worlds, capable of the extreme efficiencies of the Hydro-Sonic Steam-Hydro scrubber, but with the bulk of the scrubbing being done by the scrubber pressure drop. Just a small amount of steam or compressed gas greatly improves the scrubber efficiency.

This unit is very effective on particle sizes in the range of 0.001 to 1 microns in diameter. It also provides some turndown capability for the Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle and Tandem Nozzle configurations.

Another application where the Super-Sub assembly shines is a cyclical process where most of the time a fixed scrubbing efficiency is required, but for short periods more scrubbing power is needed. The Hydro-Sonic Super-Sub can be turned on when needed.

Another application where the Hydro-Sonic Super-Sub assembly might be used is scrubber retrofits where fan power is available but not sufficient to provide the scrubbing efficiency needed. The Super-Sub driver gas is used to supplement the fan power and boost efficiency.

Hydro-Sonic Tandem Nozzle Scrubber

The Hydro-Sonic Tandem Nozzle Scrubber is a high efficiency scrubber for difficult to scrub processes. It has two stages of scrubbing, and has been shown to have significant efficiency versus energy improvement over the Hydro-Sonic Single Nozzle Scrubber.

In the basic configuration it has fixed throat nozzles, and is good for steady state processes. Where turndown is required variable throat nozzles, a Super-Sub ejector assembly, or a gas recirculation loop may be used to maintain high efficiency.

The Hydro-Sonic Tandem Nozzle scrubber is the scrubber of choice in processes having difficult to extremely difficult scrubbing characteristics, and where excess steam is not available. It is the most often used of all the Hydro-Sonic configurations.

Hydro-Sonic Steam-Hydro Scrubber

The Hydro-Sonic Steam-Hydro Scrubber is our highest efficiency scrubber and can be used for extremely difficult to scrub processes. This scrubber is driven by steam or another compressed gas. This design was developed for processes that have excess steam or waste heat that can be used for steam generation.

Many of our early installations were Hydro-Sonic Steam-Hydro Scrubbers. Today, most processes do not have available steam or compressed gas and therefore this design is less common.
